Puerto Vallarta is located on the Pacific coast of Mexico in the state of Jalisco at the border of Riviera Nayarit.

Locals in Puerto Vallarta will generally go out of the way to make visitors feel comfortable, living up the the fame of being the world's friendliest city.
Puerto Vallarta is situated on the Banderas Bay, Bahía de Banderas, with many beautiful beaches, lush jungle and waterfalls, offering many opportunities for tourists. The boardwalk, called Malecón, is a favorite place to stroll during day or night. Many hotels and restaurants offer a great number of options of where to stay and eat.
Locals refer to Puerto Vallarta as simply Vallarta, while English regular visitors or expatriates refer to it as PV. Puerto Vallarta gained notoriety and world wide attention when in 1963 American director John Huston filmed his movie The Night of the Iguana starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton in nearby town of Mismaloya.
